Silverstone Classic 26 - 28 July 2013

The biggest and broadest selection of British historic racing grids takes place at "The Home of British Motorsport" this weekend with a total of 24 races.  With a choice of grids from the U2TC (Under 2 litre Touring Cars) via FF1600, Formula Junior and Formula 1, to big banger sports cars in the Masters Historic Sports Cars race, the event looks set to be a cracker.

So, running through the entry list here there are one or two that catch the eye.  Looking no further than those Masters Sports Cars, GT40 No 17 includes the long overdue return of Steve Soper.  Having retired due to medical reasons, it seems he's made a full recovery, so hopefully this won't be his only event this year or in the future.

The Supertouring Car Trophy has Patrick Watts in his Peugeot 405 which he pedaled to victory at Brands Hatch two weeks ago.  He faces competition from Paul Smith with Tim Harvey in the RS500 not to mention the rest of a fantastic grid.

The Transatalntic Trophy for Pre 66 Touring Cars includes a name from the Group A days of the BTCC.  Karl Jones, ex RS500 racer, is entered in Ford Mustang No 61.

Another entry of note is the XJR14.  I believe this is the first race for one of these cars since 1991.  Nic Minassion will pedal it in the Group C races.

Anyway, whatever your favourites, if you attend I hope the weather and the racing are excellent.
