Benchmarking

In this post I expressed the hope that someone would buy the ex Jon Dooley Alfa and restore it to the tracks and of course its former glory.  The car was estimated at £10-£15,000 which seemed somewhat high for what was essentially a barn find and thus in need of serious work.

Earlier this week, Bonhams held an auction at Mercedes World, Brooklands.  One of the lots was the ex Patrick Motorsport Group 1 Rover 3500 S.

This car only appeared once in the final race of the BTCC in the hands of South African peddler Rad Dougall.  It qualified on pole and finished third.  That was its one and only appearance in the category, because after that race it went into the Patrick collection.  The car sold for £22,425 including premium.  So, now we know what a group 1B car with minimal history, but in reasonable condition should fetch.

Hopefully this one will be out on the tracks next year.

Better start saving.
